DONG looks to more UK offshore wind farms
Denmark's DONG Energy is looking to build more UK offshore wind farms the head of the company has indicated at an energy conference.
Anders Eldrup, speaking at a Reuters Energy summit in Copenhagen said the UK' government's decision to double the value of the Renewable Obligation for electricity generation has spurred his company into backing more wind power.
After deciding to invest in the 1 Gigawatt London Array wind project and the Walney II development with a price tag of around US $3.8 Bn, Eldrup said those projects would not have been on the table had the ROC rules not changed.
“ If we hadn't had the ROC-regime then it is unlikely that we would have made these investment decisions,” Eldrup told a Reuters reporter, and he went on: “ This is the reason why we can now see a sound economy in these projects which we had difficulties seeing just one year ago.”
And in the future, asked about the likelihood of further wind power investment, Eldrup added: “We expect so, yes.”
But he also ruled out participating in the competition to become a new owner of British based Venture Production in which Centrica declared an interest earlier this year. “That's not something we are looking at,” Eldrup told Reuters.
