Tupi area proves up more for BG
British-based BG Group and its parters exploring offshore Brazil have proved up more pay in the deepwater Santos Basin region with a new well which has successfully been tested in the giant Tupi field area.
BG said today that a wireline test on the Iracema well, proved light oil at a depth of around 5,000 m (16,400 ft) after the well was drilled in a water depth of 2,210 m (7,248 ft) and 250 km (156 miles) offshore from Rio de Janeiro.
BG has 25% in the Iracema well in the Tupi area which was operated by Brazil's Petrobras with 65%, in partnership with Galp, which has 10% equity.
The well is designated 1-RJS-628 or 1-BRSA-369 and drilling at the location is continuing.
Meanwhile BG said details of the find have been passed on to Brazil's National Petroleum Agency.
“BG Group and its partners will continue the activities and investments foreseen in the Evaluation Plan approved by ANP, including the drilling of further wells in the area,” the UK-based explorer said today.
Previous statements by Brazil's ANP and other reports have suggested that the Tupi area could contain between 5 and 8 Bn boe.
