Third Sevan driller finalised
Published 05.08.2008 10:28:04 by John Bradbury
Petrobras has finally signed a formal deal with Norway’s Sevan Marine to secure a second drilling unit based on the circular hull design.

This latest deal marks the second driller ordered by Petrobras, which will be deployed offshore Brazil and the third for Sevan Marine which was contracted to provide another unit for India’s ONGC in June.

Under the new six-year contact, Sevan Marine is to supply a drilling unit using its proprietary Sevan 650 hull shape, which is due for delivery by the end of 2011, and equipped to operate in water depths to 2,400 m (7,872 ft).

Revenues from the six-year deal are put at US $675 m.

China’s Cosco Shipyard already has a letter of intent from Sevan Marine to construct the new drilling unit, and the agreement also covers equipment procurement and installation, and commissioning.

Aker also has a slice of the action after being contracted by Sevan Marine to supply drilling equipment for the rig
