Identifying Norwegian CO2-sites
Published 18.01.2010 08:39:22 by Elisabeth Kolstad
The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate will identify suitable CO2-storage sites on the Norwegian shelf the next three years. A number of potential CO2-storage sites is expected on the shelf, but the potential repositories have different qualities with regard to depth, capacity, containment and processes inside the reservoirs. “Our objective is to find safe storage sites for emissions from sources in Norway and from other parts of Europe,” NPD’s project manager for carbon storage, Eva Halland, says. NPD has established a forum for carbon storage, which will play an important rule in identifying suitable storage sites. ”We wish to draw on the knowledge that already exists in Norway, and we are eagerly looking forward to working with institutions with expertise in the field ” Eva Halland says. The forum includes representatives from from Christian Michelsen Research, Sintef, the Universities of Bergen and Oslo, Det norske Veritas, Gassnova and Statoil. ![]() Kuwait collection for PetrofacUK contractor Petrofac has collected a new contract with Kuwait Oil Company for work on new oil and gas pipelines. ![]() Exploration makes nine discoveriesExploration offshore Norway resulted in a total of nine discoveries being made in first half this year according to official figures.
