Technip and Samsung snare Shell LNG deal
Published 09.03.2010 09:13:05 by John Bradbury
France's Technip with South Korea's Samsung has been contracted to supply a floating LNG facility for a new project offshore Western Australia for the Prelude development.

Together Technip and Samsung have been contracted to provide Front End Engineering and Design  specific to the Prelude project, Technip stated, and a second deal covers construction of the LNG ship, subject to a final investment decision.

The news comes after Shell declared last October that the Prelude project was in an engineering and design phase and it also comes after an agreement between Technip and Samsung last July with Shell to work on design, construction and installation of floating LNG concepts over 15 years.

“ The floating design will allow Shell to place gas liquefaction facilities directly over offshore gas fields, precluding the need for long-distance pipelines and extensive onshore infrastructure,” Technip stated.  “This provides a commercially attractive approach for developing offshore fields.”
