Pre-funding for Barents Sea survey
Published 19.04.2010 13:30:03 by John Bradbury
Electromagnetic Geoservices has landed an important survey deal from Statoil to work in the Barents Sea.

EMGS has secured pre-funding from Statoil to carry out multi-client 3D electro-magnectic surveys in advance of Norway's forthcoming 21st licensing round covering the Barents Sea.

Oslo-listed EMGS said the deal involves the acquisition of more than 4,000 sq. km of data – taking its overall data library in the Barents Sea to over 14,000 sq. km and it could be expanded further still, subject to agreement with other clients.

Carl Hutchings, president of the company's multi-client group, said the data delivered from the survey will provide 3D full azimuth anisotropic inversion. “This important tool allows geologists to position EM data at the proper depth for integration with their seismic-derived prospects,” he explained.

Survey ship BOA Thalassa will be deployed for the data acquisition programme, which commences shortly.
