More than half of the monopile supports for the UK's Greater Gabbard offshore wind farm are now in place.Scottish and Southern Energy which is a 50% partner in the 500 Megawatt project also said 10 turbines have already been installed at the offshore site, along with two transformer platforms.. “Commissioning of the onshore station is well advanced,” SSE said today in an operational update. The energy group also said the first offshore power export cable has been put in and installation of inter-array cables is well underway. “The first turbines are expected to be commissioned in late summer and early autumn, and the first export of electricity will then take place. The entire wind farm remains scheduled to be completed in 2012,” the company added. And at its Walney offshore wind farm, where SSE has a 25.1% stake in the 367MW development, more than 30 foundation piles have been installed; 30 transition pieces are in place and the first five turbines are already on, and the offshore substation is also in place. “The first phase (183.6MW) is expected to be commissioned in the first half of 2011 and the second phase in the first half of 2012.
