Force majeure on Statoil Gulf rig
Published 16.06.2010 12:02:00 by John Bradbury
AP Moller Maersk in Copenhagen has confirmed the move, according to a Reuters report, concerning the Maersk Developer rig which is working for Statoil in the deepwater Walker Ridge area of the US Gulf drilling on a prospect called Tucker. “We can confirm that we have received notice of force majeure from Statoil," Martin Fruergaard described as a senior executive at Maersk, was quoted as saying by Reuters. Freurgaard indicated Maersk was evaluating its options for the drilling rig after the declaration, which has come after the US Government declared a halt to drilling in the deepwater US Gulf in the wake of the Macondo oil spill, hitting up to 33 rig drilling programmes, Reuters reported. Maersk Developer was delivered in 2009 and represented the first in a series of three new rigs capable of drilling in water depths down to 3,000 metres (10,000 ft). ![]() Athena contracts come outOperator Ithaca Energy has confirmed contracts with a Norwegian supplier for a new UK FPSO and a drilling contractor for its North Sea Athena development.
